This blog post is a complete overview of the topic that we experience daily through our work and life, full of hustle. In today’s fast-paced and growing world, taking breaks means getting distracted, or it has become a sign of inconsistency. I will explain how taking breaks is not an inconsistency, but it recharges us for upcoming challenges and, most importantly, rewiring of brain to function with more clarity. Here, we will also see different scientific methods or reasons that convey that breaks are essential in our lives.

We all participate in certain competitions, whether for career making, money or achieving stability in life. So, due to certain expectations, we all ignore one thing in our lives and do daily work with a lot of mess in our minds. To learn or create new ideas, our mind and brain need to think properly without making a mess of thoughts. When we understand the science behind taking breaks, we will get more productive in less time. Nowadays, we see terms such as “digital break,” etc. What do they actually mean? It means that when watching a digital screen for a longer time, our mind’s concentration power or focus decreases. So, to restore that potential, we take a break from it. Various ways are available to take a break, like engaging with nature, interacting with friends, not thinking, and doing meditation-like processes.

Our brain constantly makes neuro-signals or pathways, like a synaptic connection for every action or thought we process in our mind. These connections are necessary for connecting ideas or dots in life to expressing them creatively and efficiently. Research also proved that constant focus depletes cognitive resources. Without breaks, our problem-solving ability and planning maker ability become less efficient, leading to more errors in thinking and execution.

Constant focus or work doesn’t mean being more productive or extraordinary. True consistency actually means working with full, efficient thinking and a proper execution pathway. We all heard about the Pomodoro technique, which means working 25 minutes with proper focus, then taking a break of 5 minutes to recharge ourselves and then working efficiently again. I thought that this was an excellent example of what I want to magnify in this article. Some people work for 45 minutes and take a longer break, like 10–15 minutes. It also works well.

Constant work exhausts us and increases our stress levels. For that, many advisors say that to connect ourselves totally with nature and its elements. Surrender completely to a supreme power that we believe in.

True consistency doesn’t mean stopping and doing a lot of work consistently. It is most important to understand that human psychological or overall performance is cyclical or periodic, and a break is also a part of this cycle. So, don’t ever hesitate to take breaks. Take essential breaks to work with more clarity, confidence, and a creative mindset.
