Designers are personalities with highly creative minds and broad vision. A designer can do any design at an extreme level. Every successful designer knows when to stop while designing. Understanding of the design process is a vital step, but which stage has to extend to a certain level, it should also be known to the designer. If any sketch is to be drawn, we can draw endless points or lines and apply various shades to it. The same applies to design.
When I asked the question in a college workshop where famous Interior Designer Prachi Jain came, I got a very interesting answer from them, i.e., they told that when the mind feels that our design is going to look or feel like clutter, then stop. I think that is the best answer to the question. The presence of liveness or feeling is important in the design. Because we are creating space for living people with their emotions. Space must have a certain vibe. Some places should be cozy, some should be cherished. Designers have to be very specific while designing spaces and give them life.
Designing a space sometimes becomes complex because we want to avoid repetition and try something new in every project. Why do some designers only do residential projects rather than other types of projects? The reason I thought this is that every person’s requirements are different for their spaces, and also the variety of materials and scope for doing experiments.
As a designer, I think that a minimal and clean look gives us good clarity of space. Minimalism not only applies to small spaces, but how cleanly you use design elements in a given space is important.
Other designers with whom I discussed in one lecture at the National Film Archive in Pune. The name of the Architect and interior designer is Ar. Abin Choudhari’s projects show a connection to the village or Indian tradition. I asked him a question: How do architects or interior designers know their own design philosophy? This question got a very perfect answer from him, and it came when we did a lot of projects and got feedback from them that, for example, yes, I particularly like curves in my design. I also like theme-based design or the fusion of different design styles. Then we get to know what our own design philosophy is. Also, do all kinds of projects initially to get an overall idea about design and our interests.
